How much do I need to spend on a RELIABLE front end loader washer/dryer set?

We have budgeted $1400 for the washer and dryer appliances, but can allot no more. Is crieg's list a reliable source to buy something used like that? or should I go new, and is it practicable with our budget?

hmmmm - have a front loader -- stacked washer and dryer - its the GE Duet, you can get deals of under a thousand for the washer, but proper the washer and dryer into the 1400.00 will not be easy.
