Swamp cooler or evaporative cooler, what can you tell me about them?

I have lived with ac all my biography, and now I have a swamp cooler. I turned it on last night and it did not seem to cool things down much.What am I doing break down? I turned on the fan, and the water...it was not humid outside, so it should work,

First of all you should have a all right amount of windows open to allow the air to flow, you can channel the air to the rooms that you crave cooled off bye opening the windows in that room allowing the air to abundance towards those windows that are open. Swamp coolers lose their usefullness when it hit 100 degrees. The element to remember when using
